An investment in our youth is an investment in our future.
OUR MISSION & VISION
BIPOC Support Foundation is committed to empowering the lives and communities of Black, Indigenous, and Persons of Color by providing resources, education, mentorship, and economic support. BSF is dedicated to breaking down the racial, social, and economic barriers that prevent our Black, Indigenous, and Persons of Color communities from thriving.
We operate by the key principle that success is interconnected. By improving the placement of adults, we improve the education of children; by improving the education of children, we improve the future of individuals and communities across the United States.
Vision: BIPOC Support Foundation envisions a world where Black, Indigenous, and Persons of Color co-exist equitably among their educated and decolonized non-BIPOC allies, rejoicing in the complexity of their shared humanity.
WHO WE ARE
Our intersectional programs interface with both BIPOC business people and marginalized student populations, BSF has a unique place in San Diego’s diverse community.
BSF is led by a diverse group of individuals that integrally understands the challenges faced by our local communities of color. The Founder and Executive Director, DeMilo Young, has lifelong history living and working in the San Diego community, and leads our Board of Directors which consists of five women, four of which identify as persons of color.
We were founded specifically to provide support for the BIPOC community through the challenges of the pandemic and beyond, and our diverse staff are uniquely qualified to connect with the individuals that are served by our programming.
Not only does BSF identify with this community, we encourage program participants to identify more deeply with their own community as well. The programming is designed to encourage in-depth multicultural understanding, place-based learning, actionable stewardship of their local environment, and opportunities for mindful self reflection and growth.

Explore Next Door & SOAR
(Scholastic Opportunity for Academic Readiness)
After School Literacy Program
Each and every child has a fundamental right to an excellent education — one that leaves her ready to create a fulfilling life, make positive change, and help build an equitable future for everyone.
Yet, too many children — especially in Black, Latino and low-income neighborhoods — don’t have access to the learning opportunities they need.
BSF’s Explore Next Door Youth Enrichment Program bridges the cultural and financial differences of disadvantaged San Diego youth by providing a robust toolbox of skills for long-term success, and childcare for low income families while parents are still at work.
The Scholastic Opportunity for Academic Readiness (SOAR) Afterschool Program, offered by BSF, will provide a comprehensive learning solution to support marginalized K-3rd grade students. SOAR aims to close the achievement gap by offering innovative academic curriculum, individualized academic case management, socioemotional wellness tools, and enriching activities. The program will cater to both auditory and visual learning styles, with a focus on equity, inclusivity, and cultural awareness
