This innovative equity-focused afterschool program will provide comprehensive support to underserved students with the goal of closing the achievement gap for students experiencing the intersectional challenges of marginalization, poverty, and/or language barriers. By meeting children where they are academically and linguistically, and employing coherent learning solutions that support the whole child—culturally, academically, and socio-emotionally—our program is designed to empower student success in the classroom and beyond.
SOAR will offer academic case management to improve scholastic achievement, while integrally nurturing less tangible measures of student health such as behavior, mindfulness thinking, and sense of belonging. Not only will our program support underperforming students, but will also serve the needs of teachers, schools, and parents alike; each an indispensable stakeholder in these children’s futures, and each struggling in their own right in the wake of the pandemic.
