Invest in the Youth to Invest in the Future
The Backpack Initiative
In our society there is a concept of ease: we have fast communication, accessible information, an abundance of entertainment, and cheap goods. What is often forgotten are the children in homes where none of that is applicable. Where their parents are absent either through the necessity of work, or for more tragic reasons. These children can only thrive with the involvement of people like us. How do we assist in giving them the tools for success in academia? How do we show them that our community is willing to support and care for them in a way that follows them throughout the rest of their lives?
The Backpack Initiative is a way of supporting our youth with both physical tools and bolstering mental confidence. Children will be presented with custom backpacks that hold school supplies, literary items, and community outreach.

Volunteers stuffed over 400 backpacks for children in grades K-5. The book bags were filled with school supplies, reading books provided by our partner, Words Alive, and ticket vouchers to a Moonlight Youth Theater fall production.

In July, we delivered 108 backpacks to graduating seniors of the Preuss School at UCSD. In August, we delivered over 400 backpacks to families at the Vista Boys and Girls Club and to four Oceanside schools. Libby Elementary, Nichols Elementary, San Luis Rey Elementary and Laurel Elementary.
