Scholastic Opportunity for Academic Readiness (SOAR) Afterschool Program

The Scholastic Opportunity for Academic Readiness (SOAR) Afterschool Program will provide a comprehensive learning solution to support marginalized K-3rd grade students. SOAR aims to close the achievement gap by offering innovative academic curriculum, individualized academic case management, socioemotional wellness tools, and enriching activities. The SOAR program will first be offered at Valencia Park Elementary during the 2024 - 2025 school year, with plans for further implementation at schools throughout San Diego County once the curriculum is established.

The program will cater to both auditory and visual learning styles, with a focus on equity, inclusivity, and cultural awareness. The program will evaluate academic progress, attendance rates, and literacy rates of ESL students, and track student, parent, and teacher feedback about the students socioemotional health. Through whole-child support and monitoring of important mental health parameters in addition to academic learning, the program will ensure that we are working to close the achievement gap and provide a safe and socially constructive environment for San Diego’s youth.
